I would have left as much of the outer skin on, just repaired the lower front corner, then patch each inside corner separately. The smaller the patch, the less warp. But I don't brag about my welding skills...or the lack there of.

My doors had an inch or two of crap inside them. I think that is what holds moisture and makes rust. My baddest fixable door had the TOP of the 'frame' rusted through. A pic of it is on Paul's restoration ally site, #54. All I could think was that the truck was parked under a tree, with the door partially opened, and leaf litter built up there- for plenty of years!

Hey, since I junked one passenger door, I cut out the lock retention parts, and put them into the drivers side door. You'll need to 'unfold' the ummm latch mechanism box, and re-fold it backwards to make it work on the driver's side. Damn, wish I took progress pics. Now I don't remember what all I had to do the reverse the parts, but it ought to be do-able for a man with your skills.
