if I'm remembering correctly, the pin at the top of the shifter does not go all the way through the shift tower. I think mine has a pin that has had the "head" flattened, I guess as a result of whacking it into position.
I'll see if I can get the pin out and go from there. At least the shifter should come out of the tower once I get the rails out. Then I should be able to see what's really going on with it.
My luck, I'll "fix" it without identifying the problem. I hate when that happens.
