So I must assume that someone did tell him that PH1 means single phase, household power and the 208-230 can run from a residential panel, two leg, single phase, double throw breaker, properly rated for the amperage of the 5 horsepower motor, at start-up.
Depending upon the run of the circuit, the wire and conduit still needs to be sized by someone knowing what they are doing. Amperage is also listed the motor tag and that information is critical to interpret correctly and to determine the proper wire size.
