removing oil pan to clean out sluge and replace front seal

Front seal is leaking oil so I thought removing the oil pan to replace it and at the same time clean out sludge at the bottom of the oil pan. How hard is it to remove (clearance) 1947 job rated 1.5 ton.? Would it be a good idea to clean the sludge? Oil at oil changes are jet black. Can seem to find non- detergent oil. Thanks,any help or info will be appreciated.
