Cover your bets: just treat people well while you're here on earth and you don't have to choose which religion, if any at all, is the one and only true religion, as they all claim. ;) By doing so, you're following the preachings -- as opposed to the actual practices -- of nearly every religion, so you should be in good stead under all of them.
But if you don't have enough self-control or inner strength to live a good life on your own, and need outside help, religion is one source of external assistance. Just don't kill or harm any heathens, non-believers or infidels in the process of being righteous ... and be kind to athiests.
