I received some good answers here and by email (well ALMOST, I'm not moving to AZ Norm ;^)...). Now I have some reading to do. It appears that the problem is not the location of these items in the house, but that I am storing some things in a safe. I have noticed no problems with ink lifting or papers degrading with the sheet protectors I am using, but I will be looking into that further.
Got to keep these things in good shape. This could be my retirement we are talking about here!
