They ran both at the same time. you are more likely to find a 420 with the left side PTO hole. and there are a few different sets of ratios in the 435s. I think the 420s all have the same ratios, nice and low in 1st and reverse. And some 435s do not have the low first and reverse. For a 4x4 I prefer the real low gears.
