Selectable hubs are, like Dan mentioned, not very useful if you have a selectable locker or no locker. Just turn the locker off and forget about the hubs. If you don't have a selectable locker, like a Detroit, then having the hubs locked in all the time puts excess wear on your front tires as they drag around every turn you make. I have no locker and don't even use my hubs. They are locked all the time and I don't even think about it. The fuel mileage difference is not even worth thinking about.
