Need help on WDX rear shock installation

I now have four new Monroe Gas Magnum 60 shocks for my 1946 WDX. Thanks to "Paul" in a January forum posting for the part number (66707). They really are YELLOW and stand out on the front. (I may paint them black after the Iowa rally.)

Three were easy to install, but I haven't figured out the right rear shock. The lower stud is right next to the differential housing and when I start to back off the nut, it hits one of the nuts holding the differential carrier to the axle housing. The picture of the stud in the "1947-1956 Parts List" show this as a shoulder stud so I can't pull it through the cast iron bracket.

Has anyone changed this shock and had a similar problem? Is it possible my right spring has shifted in-board on the axle housing?

Thanks in advance.

p.s. I bought them from ww.shockwarehouse.com, $156/four including shipping. Delivery via UPS was less than a week.
