But you don't want to get too violent with tappets, they are only cast iron and very brittle. Easy to break the flange off the bottom.
PS, the 'tappet' is the 'lifter', the adjuster screw is the adjuster screw. These are called "mushroom tappets' because the bottom has a head on it, like a nail, or mushroom.
