My thinking was to use a newer all gear xfer case for this application. Should be stronger and quieter. Disadvantage (for now) is that the ratios on the newer units appear to be around 2.72:1. I think this might be too steep but don't know yet for sure... We might be forced to stay with the older xfer case due to it's higher ratio.

The advantage to using this setup would be that one could maintain the original 5:88 gearing. One could hook linkage up from the cab (or electronics) to allow switching between both ranges.

Hence, one would still have all of the advantages of the low gearing when needed but would also have highway gearing when needed.

The overdrive units that are on the market are designed to add overdrive to vehicles that were already designed for highway speeds. Hence, why they hover around 20% overdrive. Very different situation that we are dealing with.
