The PTO for the after-type tranny is case #12525 cast into the PTO housing. There were only two PTOs used on the PW. The difference is the size or teeth count of the idler gear. The early PTO uses a smaller idler because the early tranny is smaller. You can use the 12525 PTO on the earlier transmission using a 1/4 inch spacer plate, The earlier PTO will not work on the after-type transmissions used from 52 to early 56.
