The service manual says the stock V8 engine for a 1968 W500 was a LA 318-3 which was the premium 318 motor. Normally the SPEC stamped tags mean that the engine was upgraded, or a non standard engine was installed, and there is no upgrade beyond the 318-3 listed in the books without changing motors. The 361 can be had as both a 2V and a 4V, and then there is the 413, and the supposed light truck only 383.

My guess though is that you have a 361 2V powered 1968 W500, as that is one step above the 318-3, and was an option for the D500.
