Remember to remove the square headed bolt on top of the differential case as it is a lock/set nut to keep things in place. I have had problems from time to time removing this inner adjusting nut. If there is a lot of wear in the bearings the pinion moving back and forth seems to pound against this nut and damages it making it imposiible to remove. Remember that there is a spacer in the bearings on the pionon and this is actually what adjusts the dual bearings. I believe that at one time they came in different thicknesses. Do not switch this spacer without checking the bearing adjustment as you put the pinion back in. If you but new bearings in you may need a new spacer.
