That article is full of crap...."Dodge comes late to the crossover party"??? Just more typical know-nothing ramblings from a yuppie who grew up on foreign cars...
The Jeep Cherokee was a cross between a station wagon and SUV and it came out in 1984. Before and after that there were many Jeep and Dodge models, can you say Durango, Nitro, Caliber???
Joe, the motor could be a VM Motori, the same Daimler company who built the 2.8 for the Jeep Liberty. It's an Italian, Penske/Detroit Diesel company.
Because of CA emission regulations this motor cannot meet the 2010 standards, however there is the Mercedes 3.0 and there are new, small V-6 and V-8 Cummins being built that will meet the regs and we'll see them in 2010, in all 50 states (45 states now). The new Cummins plant is currently under construction.
Everyone can go to the new Chrysler LLC blog page and under "future fuels" and other headings you can all go post there and ask for clean diesel motors in the USA.
I've been posting there for a few weeks and the posts do get read by Chrysler brass, I've even received a few emails and photos from folks at Chrysler......confidentially of course....= )
