Well, the consensus at the Rally was that I had blown out both of my hubs. We had jacked up each front wheel and were able to spin each wheel in either locked or unlocked position. Blew out those cheesy aluminum hubs! I have had them for 7 or 8 years and have never had a bit of problem with them, and have always stood up for them in the which hubs do you like discussions.
Then on Sunday, I discovered that I also had the broken front axle, which we replaced on the spot at the Rally.
Today I got curious, and drove up to a big pile of dirt that had been dumped several years ago and is good and hard but still steep. I nosed up to it in 2 wheel but with the hubs locked in. She started to climb a bit and then began to spin. I backed down and put her int 4 wheel and tried again, this time climbing almost all the way up before spinning front and rear. I backed back down and engaged the front air locker and climbed right over the top without spinning a wheel.
Soo, I guess the "cheesy" aluminum hubs held up better than the steel axle did. I am stil in the Superwinch hubs camp.
Tim
