There is a lot of truth in your comments. It is not the vehicle that makes the difference it is the driver. I good driver can take a vehicle most anywhere as per John and friends. It is not a matter of HP or engine size it is knowing what your truck can do. Look at the recent example of the ffpw stomping on a built Chev big block in a tractor pull. I am sure that the ffpw did not make as much noise or throw as much dirt but in the end it went twice as far.
I have one truck with a flathead 6 and it will stay that way (it is way too straight of a stock truck to do any major changes to). My carryall has a V8 which was in it when I bought it. It will stay that way for the time being. Both trucks have different uses and are "tuned" to their use.
