no one around here stocked any of the brushes or the Bendix and Napa had a starter locally so I went ahead and bought for 68 bucks. the bushing, bendix and probably armeture were bad. I could have got a cheaper starter somewhere else but this one is lifetime and rebuilt in USA so should not fail in a weeks like the ones from shucks auto parts. I like your field repair ideas though!
