You don't need multi-kilowatts for camping. Most likely you just want to run a TV, fluorescent light, or some electronic gadgetry. There are all kinds of inverters available nowadays for under $100. $200 will get you one that'll put out an honest kilowatt and run any power tool. If you don't want to risk running down your truck battery, pick up a deep discharge battery for another $50-$100. Total cost is a lot less than a generator, and it doesn't annoy anybody (though the TV, ghetto-blaster, or lights you run with it still might).
