Ok, buddy I’m only trying to help, but I’m telling you, you need an external regulator. Yes, the model you have does have more than one internal regulator; the field regulator shuts off current to the rotor when the ignition is turned off, the other is connected to the brush to the hot side of the battery. Your parts guy is incorrect in saying that it has an internal regulator because it has more than one and they don’t perform the same function as the regulator you probably are thinking of. Getting deeper into this is only going to frustrate you more, so let’s don’t.

Now, all the terminals that I mentioned in my post below are present on this alternator. The big red plastic circle terminal and the “R” and “F” terminals on the side, etc. are right for this GM 60 amp alt... The “R” & “F” go to an EXTERNAL regulator.

If you don’t believe me, go to www.partsamerica.com and lookup a 1972 Chevrolet Impala. It uses the 7133 alt and also shows the external regulator that you need. There is nothing unique with the alt. you have, you just don’t have all the parts. You want to know why I know you don’t have all the parts. It’s because I have the same darn setup on my truck using the same alt.! Follow the directions in my earlier post.

Now, what are you using for a solenoid?
