This sounds like it may be vapor lock instead of a bad fuel pump, since you were in a parade (notorious for causing vapor lock from slow speeds for a long distances on a hot day). Does your truck start and run good after it cools down? I suggest adding an auxilliary electric fuel pump near the gas tank to push gas to your stock mechanical fuel pump. This has worked great for me on several vehicles. Just flip a switch to activate the electric fuel pump when the engine starts to die.
