Sorry I didn't get back. No fuse was used, and the gauge was on its own hot lead off the hot loom. The truck never had a single fuse in it from the factory except for the fusible link. Everything else I wired up was circuit breaker or fuse protected. I never even considered fusing the Volts gauge, because of how it was installed and no 'load' on the circuit. Wrong! It was the meter movement inside the case that moved and shorted out to case, burning the 2 wires. Oil pressure lines have now been re-routed!
