I have an idea for a career change. I think I would like to get into Farm Property Development. You know, buying up land to develop into farms to produce food and fuel for the world’s growing population.

I don’t know everything there is to know about farming, but hey, commercial developers don’t necessarily know how to sell cell phones either. The retailers who buy commercial developments know how to sell the cell phones. The farmers who buy my properties should know how to farm on them.

I would not have to be too particular in what properties I consider for development. There are plenty available to choose from: residential, retail, commercial, industrial, government, and public. Homes are selling terrible right now, with an over abundance of vacant houses are all over the place. Abandoned quick stops and gas stations can be found at nearly every street intersection. Factories are sitting empty. Government office buildings are unoccupied half the year. Public lands are closed to the public. May as well put all of this wasted space to good use.

But I figure the best way to go about this would be to buy up whole chunks of neighborhoods at a time. People can take the money and go find more desirable places to live, work, and play. Maybe there can be a law passed making it easy to condemn gated communities. Farms can make use of the fences, so that one is a no-brainer. Fences are good when raising all of those hogs and cattle, another couple of food products. Plus all of that fresh manure can be liquid broadcast all over to help the crops grow. Everyone wins. Urban areas get cleaned up and turned into productive spreads. Eyesore strip malls could become a thing of the past. What was once sterile suburbia concrete can now be fertile cropland. Families become closer as they turn to farming. Land can be passed on from generation to generation. Communities get smaller and everyone knows everyone and they are always ready to lend a hand when needed. Imagine not having to commute to work.

This sounds like a ground floor opportunity. I can not believe no one has thought of it before. I could be the next Donald Trump!
