Accelerator pump piston leaks?

When you back off, the piston moves up, lifting the gas that has leaked past the piston. The gas then leaks down the 'lift rod' hole.

If you have not run it much lately, it may get better as gas soaks into the leather 'piston'.

It ain't no Quadrajet, rebuilding one of these is easy. Or buy a kit, and only replace the pump and the top gasket. Don't mess with float settings or anything else.

Worst carb ever was the Mazda '73 RX-2. It had 16 jets. Little bitty holes, always plugging up.
