Did you loose the little spring clips that hold the butt end wire connectors in place? I am visualizing the older kind of switch that has two female plugs with small slits on the sides. These slits hold the spring clips in place. I believe the later style with one male and one female use the very same clip on the female side. I think the male side should have the clip in the female connector on the end of the wire.
NAPA has direct replacements as previously mentioned by Robert, made by Echlin the last time I bought them.
