Well that was certainly a more intelligent response than your first few posts. You're still not reading clearly what I wrote, which was be careful when buying lumber at big boxes, not all lumber is stamped for or suitable for construction.
In the UBC, or as you correctly noted, the new IBC, Chapter 25, Standard of Quality, it clearly states in the first sentence that ALL ".....wood members and their fasteners shall conform to the provisions of the chapter."
You well know that chapter 25 is the largest chapter in the UBC/IBC and goes on to list and state the grading agencies and the grading requirements for types of structures, allowable spans, etc.
Now, back to my original premise, not ALL lumber sold at big boxes is correctly graded. Go back and re-read my posts and then read your over reactive responses and you'll see that I'm not stating that all of the lumber sold at the big retailers is not graded, but that some if not much of the "stud" lumber is ungraded, at least ungraded with recognized grading systems. The unlisted stamps look good to the homeowner, the uninitiated or less observant, but in fact there is no "Construction" or "builders" grade in the system on the West coast.
I could have stated that better in my first post, but the last sentence was actually a "throw away line" and didn't have much to do with the point of my post about Chrysler (thanks for hijacking that by the way).
Obviously you were a little touchy about it when you came flying off the handle, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to irritate you on your first day as greeter at Home Depot.....= )
