We're still about an hour away from Colorado Springs. Sorry to hear the reason for missing 7-falls ... doesn't speak well for our city! Hope you made up for it by visiting Garden of the Gods Park. There's a hiking trail in North Cheyenne Canyon City Park (The Cutler Trail) where you gain the ridge between N. & S. Cheyenne Canyons and can look down into 7-falls. Nice view!
Your lucky folks must be having a great summer. Great that you were able to visit them at the resort. The whole Grand Lake area is beautiful. We were last there two summers ago for two short backpacking trips; One in the Indian Peaks Wilderness south of RMNP and one in the Never Summer Range to the west of the Park. We can't backpack in RMNP with a dog, but the neighboring areas are real nice too.
Husser sounds close enough to Mandeville to stop in talk PW's when we get down there. It looks like the closest we've been on previous trips is when we went to the Ponchetula Strawberry Festival! I'll give you heads up here on the Forum before we head down that way.
