Yep, the Mercedes R series is on the 300 platform also.
These cars have been on the road for 3-4 years now and if Chrysler feels good enough about their track record to stand behind them forever, then the mechanicals are indeed proven.
The one weak link is the Mercedes transmission, but it's a matter of "feel" not durability, anyway, if you get a new one, after today, it's a lifetime warranty, if it breaks down at 100,000, 200,000 and 300,000, it's not going to be your dime.
