One of my favorite trucks is a 1935 Dodge 1.5 ton chassis cab with dual wheels that is sporting the original paint under a coat of satin clear coat. The truck belongs to a guy in the Wheat State Chapter of the Antique Truck Historical Society. Photos of it are on several websites. I can email if someone wants to post here. By the way, this guy arrogantly told me he has about 50 Power Wagons and he thinks they are worthless. Anyway, the front bumper and wheels have been painted satin black, but the sheet metal was just cleaned, prepped and sealed with the clear coat. I believe Don Evans did the same with his beautiful 1946 WDX in original Seawolf Submarine Green paint.

I just bought a fire truck with decent original paint and door lettering and pinstriping. Unfortunantely, the prior owner buffed the hood and removed the gold leaf stripe down the side, etc. Despite this, I am going to try to preserve the paint that is on the cab and will look into the Mother's and McGuire's products or the clear-coat option. I will paint the frame, etc. as time and other project permit.

I spent 8 years on the last restoration and have four years in a current project. Sometimes it's best to just leave well enough alone and spend time enjoying other aspects of life.

Any truck can be "restored". Most are over-restored. Only a well-preserved original can be preserved. Good luck whatever you decide.
