There is a lot to be said for both options ie; a complete mechanical rebuild and leave the body original with the Patina of years. It gives it a tough 'used' look. Sounds like yours may look like a truck many of us know as 'Wilbur' and also Tim's Truck. If you plan to leave it this way, I would do something to prevent outside surface rust from forming where the paint it oxidized and maybe the surface is comprimised.

If you complete the mechanical work and then paint the truck, she will look new. No reason it still cant be used on the trails and for work. A scratch in he paint is a 'Purple Heart' It all boild down to what you want 'your' truck to look like when completed.

One issue you may want to consider in leaving her original, looking old and used is Insurance. From reading some posts here, it appears, that some insurance companies that deal in antique insurance shy away from the old, used, rugged look. While the same truck in new paint, looking bright and new is not a problem.

Either way you finish her, she will always blend right in with all the other Power Wagons. Finish her how you want to see her look.
