Since I am among the vertically challenged (5'7"), and horizontally over-dimensional (250lbs), my method is as follows.
1. Shoot! Can't find the step stool.
2. Hitch up jeans.
3. Drink a beer.
4. Make a running leap.
5. Bang my shins against running board.
6. When that has happened, I open the door.
7. Right hand on door frame, Left hand on door.
8. Swing right leg up on to running board.
9. Pull myself up to full vertical.
10. Whew! Drink a beer.
11. Release grip on door frame. Don't look down!
12. Place right foot on floor near gas pedal.
13. Grab steering wheel with right hand.
14. Swing my posterior in a counter-clockwise manner and deposit it on the seat.
15. Retrieve left leg and place foot on floor in front of clutch pedal.
16. Dadgumit! I forgot the beer!
