Thats a hard question. The electric motor has to be able to provide the power to trun the winch up to its rated capacity. I have seen some electric winches that use starter motors, others use gear reduction motors. Matching up a unknown motor to a unknown load can take some mysterious engineering. Here is my best shot at it. I would research to see if the shaft drive winch you now have came in a electric power option. If so, then you can get with the manufactuer and either buy that motor or maybe get specs.
Its going to be tricky, you also dont want to overload and burnup the motor nor do you want it to wimp out.

To mount it for front or back, thats easy. Make a receiver hitch receiver on the front and back of your truck. Mount the winch on a frame with a receiver hitch drawbar. Push the winch in the front or rear receiver hitch, put the pin in the receiver hitch and your winching away.

Serious good luck on this one

Paul
