So far it's still a cool, wet season here in North Idaho. There was even snow on the high hills a couple days ago. Snow pack was a little less than average but all the rain has kept the water levels up and brush green. It doesn't usually get seriously dry until after 4th of July, but with a wet June like this, I think we'll probably be okay. Rainy Junes are good for the huckleberries so we should have a great crop this year.

We're coming up on the 100th anniversary of the 1910 fire, which I think burned 11 million acres here, most of it in a 3-day firestorm in late August, and there's plenty of talk from all sides about the fire hazard. Lots of old burned out cedar snags from the "big blow-up" are still around to remind us of what happened back then. Experiments have shown that if you keep the trees and brush cleared back 200' from the buildings, even a hot crown fire won't set the buildings on fire, but not very many people want to do that. One of these years will be a dry one up north, but it doesn't look like this year will be it.
