I misspoke when I said the tire/tube world was mysterious. I should have said confusing. Sombody knows the answer, but most people THINK they know the answer. Thats what gets me confused.
I am an Engineering Major and there are certainly many confusing things floating around. That being said, I have to disagree when you say that tires are the most complexly engineered component. The first 4 or 5 basic engineering classes can easily demonstrate that. They also show you quite a few engineering mysteries.
