I fixed a very annoying intermittent gas gage problem on the Tucker by soldering a very flexible coiled wire between the sender arm and the sender body. Using a rather fine stranded wire and coiling it ensures that it won't break due to repeated movement of the arm. I'd been through all the other connections in the system and couldn't get it to work consistently. The gage relies on the arm grounding itself through the pivot point, which probably works fine 99.99% of the time, but since it's not a solid connection, it's subject to corrosion and varnish build-up. It was an easy fix and I won't hesitate to use it on anything else with flaky fuel sender problems. Another common problem is that the tank is not solidly grounded. The mounting straps often have cloth or rubber strips behind them, and the orignal all-metal fuel line is often interrupted by a piece of rubber hose. It's also an easy fix to run an extra ground wire from one of the sender mounting screws to the frame.
