Crushable sleeve?

I'm not a Dana expert, but I have ruined a differential...

Anyhow, some differential don't use shims, they use a crushable sleeve. Like a steel pipe, with a bulge pressed in. It starts out too long, then gets crushed as you tighten the nut. Tighten too much, crush too much, tight bearings.... Loosening the nut is not a good fix, unless you do something to get some length back into the sleeve. A shim? Or you have to remove the sleeve, put it over a piece of round bar, and hammer the bulge to make the sleeve longer... YMMV.

On the other hand, just loosening the nut will restore it to the sloppy way it was before you replaced the seal...
