(1) One of the pinion bearings has spun and worn into the housing
(2) The bearing has warn into the housing due to high milage and a touch of slop. Sort of hammered it's way in .
(3) Bearings are warn out.
I would fix it or get a new rear end . Unless it is on a farm truck - short haul special.
