I think primer would have helped the coverage of white over 'junk yard camo'. And I'd guess that eight coats means a tad over thinned perhaps. But I'd bet that modern Rustoleum is as good a paint as was brewed 50 years ago.

Anyways, if he could get those results for $50, just think what YOU could do for an extra $50, for opaque primer, a little Japan Drier, a gallon of Industrial Enamel. Plus use a Harbor Freight gun? But the sloweer dying oil based stuff flows out very well, not like the fast drying laquers that I finished a couple million dollars worth of custom furniture with. But application method doesn't matter, because you are going to rub it out anyway. (as my neighbor the body shop manager tells me)

Did I tell you that I toured the Knight & Carver yacht company? The guys were painting multi-million dollar toys. Thick Linear link polyurathane paint, put on with that same fine roller. Flowed out and just gleamed...
