I am not so sure the registries are an accurate measure of how many truck owners "care", or even show an interest, for that matter. Though I see where you are coming from.

I think the registries are more a measurement of the number of select individuals who “feel connected” by their interest in details, all within the small group of people who the registries actually reach. Some of us find enjoyment in comparing trucks features, colors, history, or whatever. And the registries are one interest that consolidate and bond us together.

I think there are a lot more people who would list there vehicles if they knew about and/or could access the registries. Remember, they are accessible by only a small number of collectors. I’ll bet that at least half of the Power-Wagon owners out there do not have internet access. Of those that do have internet access in their homes, how many have it for their family members, but do not access it themselves?

Mike and Cindy, owners of the now defunct Kollection Korner, once had a pretty good registry of sorts in the works. It was not well known throughout the Power-Wagon community however. It was not online. It was printed out in hard copies and was mainly composed of individuals who had attended one of VPW’s Rallies, and/or those who had purchased Power-Wagon collectables from the Kollection Korner. It reached only a limited number of people, just like the online registries reach only a limited number.

I think there are a good number of the Power-Wagons produced still out there. The number of junkers, parts trucks, and those hiding waiting to be found are dwindling, but those that are being rebuilt, restored, or just maintained for use are increasing in numbers. I think that the parting of trucks is a good thing. Just one truck that is parted out can assure that how many more survive – one, two, twenty? It is hard to say.

If Gordon has roughly 2000 subscribers to the Power Wagon Advertiser at any given time, and we have seen probably 500 or more different trucks brought to just the VPW Rallies over the years, I’ll bet there are many, many, more people buying parts than you think.
