Yes, its very difficult to use a hand held on a engine with a Radiator in the way. Almost 100% of the time, I use my General Radio Strobotac. Adjust the readout until the rotating part is frozen with the Strob flash and read the speed. Much easier than the handheld. However, with the Cummns I do have room to get on the Crank shaft end. The hand help works great on small engines in the open.
