Yep, that is what I'm thinking too - bad valve job. It doesnt look like the water jackets or any of the iron in the heads has been impacted, all of the cutting looks like it was done on the seat insert, so I think that we'll be OK with new seats.
As far as the Poly - somebody in NJ (Can't remember who bought it from me) really needed it for their restoration, so since my truck is of mixed pedigree (1/2 '68, 1/2 '64) anyway, I struggled, no ... labored, (wrestled?) with the decision, but thought that it would be better suited in powering a thoroughbred. (you buying any of this?) ;^)
