Hey Charlie, did you read my responce below? The most important thing you'll want to make sure of is the truck ready for such a trip? Before even worring about things like your horsepower, replace your entire fuel line system. Then replace your entire brake system, lines and all. Set it up for dual batteries, and dual tanks.

Once thats done, then you can start playing with the other things. First, and absolutely necessary, if its an automatic, is a big tranny cooler! No excuses for not having one. Also, if its automatic, put in a RV tranmission kit. New u-joints through out, new ball joints and things. New shocks, tires, and carry at least 2 spares with you.

For power upgrades, go with the MP electronic ignition, MP fluid fan kit with shroud, MP Deep tranny panheaders, dual exhaust with cross over (at least 2 1/4" diameter) free flow mufflers. Run the exhaust outside the frame rails up high, and you should be alright. A small cam dialed in 4° advance will help the low end power. You'll need a remote oil filter for the engine if you are using headers, might as well get a dual set-up with a cooler.

Take along several caps, rotors, spark plugs, oil, coolant (do NOT run without a thermostat) fire extinguishers, and air filters. Speaking of air filters, switch to an open element like K&N, use the foam boot.

The point I'm trying to make is that once hit the road, you'll probably hit some areas where you won't be able to get parts. If you stick with simple upgrades, the likelyhood of finding replacement emergency parts are far greater then if you built an engine with a blower, nitrious, etc. It's the low end power you're looking for, not high rpm speed.

I hope that helps a bit!
