PW carburetors

I have heard of PW owners swapping the original Carter "Ball & Ball"
carburetors for a Stromberg, on the PW 230 c.i.d. six. Has anyone
monitoring this page had experience with such a conversion? Can you
relate the merits of the Stromberg over the Carter? I am considering
such a conversion. The 230 in my '57 W300 PW is presently equipped with
the Carter, but for some reason, it seems to run quite rich. I have
adjusted the idle misture screw until I'm blue in the face but no
positive results. I have a Stromberg that I am considering rebuilding
for this engine, but would like to hear from those who have been down
this road before I go to the trouble. My '41 WC3 has the same engine with
the Carter carb, but does not have the richness problem. Were there different
size main jets avaliable for these Carters? The Carter on the '57 is not
the original, and may have come off a larger displacement engine, hence
the possibility of a larger main jet. Any advice gratefully appreciated.
