Technically Charlie is right on this; however from a practical point of experience I have one of my M37s still all 24v while running two 12 volt tail lights and a heater motor off one battery. I have used this system for years and never had any battery problems. If you keep it a light load i.e. two tail light bulbs and a common car radio you shouldn't have any problems. Or you could just run a separate system for 6v and 12v, This would require one 12v battery and one 6v. I have some take out 5 ton engines that both have 12 volt alternators on them in addition to the original 24v system. The Dept of Natural Resources had them and apparently were running 2 systems. Then I have a WC 1/2 ton that had been converted to 12v from 6v leaving the original starter on. It works great and cranks like mad. Been using that for years too. Lots of combinations possible. Good luck
