I have been down this road. Years ago, I put a
civilian pickup cab on my '41 WC3. As mentioned,
the cowl lip where the hood rests is horizontal.
If you don't modify this, the back of the sloped
military hood will stick up in the air and will not
fit correctly. I modified my cab by cutting a horizontal
slot in the firewall below the lip, and a couple of
notches across the lip. Then, I bent the lip in and
down, the notches and the slot closed up (determining
the correct amount of material to remove took some
engineering) and welded everything back up. The now
sloped lip conformed to my military hood, and looks
original. I did not, but should have, sectioned in
a piece of metal, to close up the filler tube hole.
All I did was weld a cap in a piece of steel tube,
and glue it in the rubber grommet. Before I paint
the rig again, I believe I will close this hole
properly. I have a civilian truck cab that I would let go,
but you would have to come to Nevada to get it.
