The Technical Manual for the WC-51, etc. shows that when you remove the front clip, you remove the passenger side splash guard from the fender. You leave the driver side splash guard attached to the fender and instead remove the mounting tabs from the frame, after you have removed the battery tray. This explains why I have had difficultyin the past.
