I have driven PW's with and without rear shocks. On hard surface roads such as black top and cement I cant really say shocks make a difference due to the heavy springs in the rear. Your daily driver may fit in this catagory. On rough roads with washboard/bumps, there is some noticable improvement.

I added modern tubular shocks to my carryall with little change in the ride. I then had custom springs designed to carry my intended load and yet give a better ride. That made the difference in night and day.

You could get knee action shocks/mounts off a WC Dodge. They will fit a PW as the springs are 1.750" wide on both PW/WC. I have been told that knee action shocks when properly rebuilt perform quite well. Knee Action shocks/mounts should be very cheap as most want modern tubular. I tossed the knee actions from the carryall as I could not even give them away. Check with Mid West Military, they 'might' even have NOS or kits to rebuild used knee actions. I am not speaking from 'ride' experience on the knee action shocks, just repeating the 'ride' I have been told about.
