Have you ever seen a 2WD driver’s side bracket from the same time period? They are horizontal and protrude straight out from the stake pocket to the license plate bracket. Unlike the Power-Wagon version, which angles down at a 45 degree angle. The 2WD arm also appears to be longer than the Power-Wagon’s angled version. If you were to straighten the Power-Wagon arm to a horizontal, it may well be the same length as the straight 2WD version, but I have never tried. This horizontal arm places the taillight bucket and license plate higher in relationship to the stake pocket than those found on the Power-Wagon. This increase in height (2WD) would probably be about horizontal with a taillight bucket mounted on the passenger side when using the bracket that you borrowed from Steve.

My first reaction when I saw Steve’s bracket was that it was originally from the passenger side of a 2WD truck. It would be shorter than the driver’s side, but that would be okay. You do not have a license plate on the passenger side, so there is no need for the increased arm length on that side.

I just wonder if there were so few buyers in the early years of the Power-Wagon who needed a passenger side bracket, that Dodge just used a 2WD bracket instead of designing a new one for the truck? The taillights would not be on the same horizontal plane, or spaced equal distance from the stake pockets, but who would really care at the time?

The part numbers do not seem to support this however. I wish I had the 2WD parts lists from those years. But there is evidence that mistakes were being made in them anyway.
