Exactly right, theft! And if I got away with it and sold it I would be frauding the new buyer because he may think he is buying a 46 and in reality the truck is maybe a 52 model.

And going out to the barn and taking a vin tag off one vehicle and putting it on another is fraud and illegal.

I never said putting a different frame under a truck because the old one was broke is illegal. I said in my eyes the truck would not be a #'s matching truck anymore if #'s Matching really exists in the old Dodge Truck world. Which was its own debate in itself.

But with that being said if someone buys a Power Wagon and the Serial#/VIN does not match the frame # then is the year of the truck really the year they are buying and has had the frame replaced or are you being frauded because someone simply took a tag off one truck and screwed it on another? And you think you are buying a certain year when the truck is another year truck. That is fraud. You are selling me something that isnt what it is.

Going one step further was the truck stolen and had a different serial #/VIN screwed onto it making it a "different truck"???

Lots of questions can be raised if the serial # dont match the frame #.

The law isnt just for exotic sport cars it for any type of vehicle. And with the price of these trucks climbing and the ease of changing tags I would be willing to bet theres been plenty of fraud and theft out there. More then we know.

Another question to ponder going by from what my lawyer friend said a VIN tag and matching frame is still considered a legal vehicle in some states. Is that vehicle officially dead and can never be rebuilt and put back on the road if the frame was broke and damaged beyond repair?! Has its life legally ended as such and such serial# truck?

The lucky thing is most DOT inspections probably dont worry about looking on the frame. They open the door and look at the tag and walk around it making sure its a safe vehicle the lights work and the windows are there and sign off and you get your title and away you go. Getting by the system.
