If you have a electric Temp Gauge, the following applies;

My 1967 Dodge Shop Manual which covers WM-300 gives the following information on Electric Temperature Gauges as used on the WM-300 PW;

"Resistance values of the sender vary in direct relation to the temperature of the coolant. The Resistance value is LOW when the coolant is hot and the resistance value is HIGH when the coolant is cold".

No resistance values are given since the shop manual directs to use Test Set C-3826 which gives readouts in Alpha Characters such as A,B,C. The test set also checks readout of the gauge by turning to different Alpha Character positions.

The Shop manual show proper hook up of the electric temperature gauge on WM-300 as follows; Power Switched by the ignition switch is wired to the Gauge Terminal Marked SW. The Gauge Terminal Marked GA goes direct to the Temperature sender.

Since no resistance values are given for the sender, I would place the sender in a pan of cold water with the sender connected to a Ohm Meter. The Ohm Meter Must read some High Value. Then heat the water, at boiling the Ohm Meter should read a low value. If you get this swing in values, the sender is most likely good and you problem is in the wire between the sender and gauge or the gauge its self.
